This is a symtom of PTSD one minute everythig is fine then the next smell, sound, sight just brings back all the feeling of a tramatic experience.
For example my family and I were at a military party to celebrate troops that had recently come back from over seas and guess what the military thought would be a good welcome home gift? They flew jets over the building and one minute all the troops were having fun the next second they are all screaming where is my gun and call in air support from behind stack of chairs and from underneath tables.
